What is a 401(k) plan?
A “401(k)” is a type of plan that provides participants the opportunity to save for retirement and invest in a tax deferred environment. Eligible participants can direct their employers to contribute a portion of their salary directly into an investment account. Employers have the ability to contribute matching and/or profit sharing contributions to the plan. Contributions to the plan and investment earnings accrue tax-deferred until participants withdraw the funds for personal use. Generally, when an employee leaves a firm he or she may “rollover” their 401(k) accounts to a successor employer account or a Individual Retirement Account (“IRA”) Please click the attached link for a more thorough definition of a 401(k): Link
Should I start a 401(k)?
Yes! How will you fund your retirement? Guaranteed pensions have become rare; Social Security benefits will most likely be inadequate for our retirement income needs. The combination of tax deferred asset growth and potential to reward employees through a cost effective vehicle is a powerful incentive to maintain a plan.
